Zach Eddy and Braden Smith lead Purdue basketball against rival Indiana

WEST LAFAYETTE — Saturday was a good day for Purdue basketball.

Wisconsin was beaten by Rutgers.

Michigan State came back to beat Illinois.

The second-ranked Boilermakers then hammered their rival 79-59 at Mackey Arena, completing a season sweep of Indiana State.

Zach Eddy finally got his 3-pointer.

Purdue now has a 2.5-game lead over Illinois in the Big Ten standings with seven games remaining in the regular season.

It’s over when

The Hoosiers held on early.

Then they didn’t.

Purdue led 20-18 midway through the first half, going on a 15-1 run, a period in which Indiana missed eight straight shots and turned the ball over more than five times.

The Boilermakers never let their opponent recover from it, going icy cold 0-for-7 from 3 on triples from Braden Smith, Myles Colvin and Mason Gillis.
