EAST LIVERPOOL — The area’s Lenten holiday fish fry remains one of the biggest fundraisers for area nonprofits and community organizations during the spring, and this year it’s preparing to resume in mid-February.

For the New Manchester Volunteer Fire Department, the weekly fries are their biggest fundraiser, according to Buddy Stewart.

Taking place between 10am and 6pm on Fridays from February 16 to March 29, guests can choose a fish or chicken sandwich for $6 or upgrade to a dinner with coleslaw and either fries or cheesesteak. For an additional fee.

Shrimp are also available either in basket form or as an advanced dinner form.

Additional dinner sides can also be purchased individually.

New this year is that Apple, Cherry, Raspberry, Peach, Lemon and Chocolate Pies will be available for purchase for $3 each from Miriam’s Amish Style Cooking and Baking website

Only cash is accepted; However, there is an ATM machine available on site if needed for dining.

The department also offers local delivery with a minimum order of $30, subject to staff availability. To order, call (304) 564-4497.

A little further north, the Lions Club handles the fry-up duties in Newell. Club members prefer to stick to the basics on their menu. You can either choose a fish sandwich for $7 or add fries and coleslaw to elevate your dinner for an additional cost.

They offer service between 10am and 5:30pm with dine-in and takeout at 510 Washington Street. Delivery is also available. The Newell Lions Club also hosts fish fries outside of the Lenten schedule, and also serves its menu on the first and third Fridays from October through May. Orders can be placed at 304-387-3413.

The Chester American Legion Restaurant serves fish or shrimp (dinner choice) during Good Friday. Diners can choose either the fish sandwich or shrimp basket or add two sides to upgrade their dinner. Side options include soups such as lobster bisque or clam chowder. French fries; Hush puppies and cole slaw. Dine in or take out will be available at the home located at 404 Carolina Ave. Orders can be placed at 304-387-0005.

The Wellsville Sons of Italy host weekly fries during the Lenten season every year. In addition to fish (baked or fried), a combo dinner with shrimp is also served. Dine-in or carry-out will be available.

Dinner will be held at the club’s location at 327 Main Street, and carts will be available. To order, call (330) 532-1927.

Between 4 and 7 p.m. on Fridays, two-course fish dinners are available for $12 each at Second Baptist Church, 1091 Pennsylvania Avenue in East Liverpool. Guests can choose from fries, macaroni and cheese or green beans for $12. Orders can be placed by calling 614-571-6272. Dining and meals will be available.

For one day only, the Calcutta Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual fish from 3 to 7 p.m., Good Friday (March 29) to benefit the town of St. Clair’s annual Memorial Day activities in May. The event also includes a bake sale and a Chinese auction.

Diners can purchase pre-event dinner tickets for $10 from firefighter departments or area businesses including Sabatini’s Boots, Four Seasons Mini-Mart or Calcutta Auto Parts.

Dining will be available at the fire station located at 15445 Pugh Road, and pickup trucks will be available.
