Although major new versions of macOS have been released in October or November for the past four years, there’s a chance macOS Sonoma will be released in September of this year, depending on the beta testing progress of the update.


as pointed out @iSWUpdates on XThe macOS Sonoma beta seven released to developers last week has a version number ending in “a,” while macOS Ventura beta seven had a version number ending in “f” last year. A version number that ends with a previous letter in the alphabet usually indicates that beta testing is nearing completion.

macOS Mojave was released in September 2018. The seventh beta version of this update also had a version number ending in the letter “a”.

  • Mac Mojave: September 24, 2018
  • Mac Catalina operating system: October 7, 2019

Other updates expected in September include iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, tvOS 17, and HomePod 17 software release.

There’s no guarantee that Apple’s past plans indicate the company’s future plans, of course, so keep in mind that this is just speculation. macOS Ventura had eleven betas and release candidates before it was released publicly, while macOS Sonoma is only down to seven betas so far, so an October release can’t be ruled out. It simply seems like a September release is likely to be available this year.
