Waterville’s Letourneau Ice Fishing Derby, a winter carnival scheduled for February 18

WATERVILLE – The 26th annual Gene & Lucille Letourneau Ice Fishing Derby is set for Sunday, February 18, on any safe, legal Maine pond or lake of their choice with the official weigh-in from 2-5 p.m. at the Muskie Community Center, 38 St. gold

This mid-winter tradition for ice fishing enthusiasts and families attracts people of all ages across the state to compete for cash prizes, stand a chance at winning a door prize (YETI Tundra 65 Cooler Pack), and participate in numerous winter carnival activities.

This event encourages ages 15 and under to compete in their own category. Cash prizes will be awarded for first and second place in eight adult fish categories and for first, second and third place in 10 youth fish categories.

Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy a fire pit, s’mores, hot cocoa, popcorn, cornhole, pool table, silent auction, and purchase food from Maine Pine Catering during this indoor/outdoor event.

Young people can experience the Children’s Discovery Museum’s mobile activities between 10am and 2pm, as well as crafts, coloring and other free fun activities (available until 5pm).

Young local author Lori Graves will be selling signed copies of her books from the Grand Library series and will be doing a reading at 11 a.m. For younger children, Tiffany Ritchie, author of Fly Butter, will read her book starting at 11:30 a.m. and signed copies will also be sold.

Ice Fishing Derby tickets can be purchased online and at several locations including the Muskie Community Center, Backcountry Baits at 55 Grove St., Christy’s Country Store at 932 Augusta Road in Belgrade, D&L Country Store at 573 Smithfield Road in Oakland, Harvest Time Baits at 932 Augusta Road in Belgrade. 271 Taylor Road in Winslow, Middle Road General Store at 3535 Middle Road in Sidney, Tri-Pond Variety at 164 Village Road in Smithfield, Twins Country Store at 2336 N Belfast Ave. In Augusta, the Cohen Community Center is at 22 Town Farm Road in Hallowell, and at the Spectrum Generations office at 1 Weston Street in Augusta.

Each ticket allows a fish to be entered and entered into a door prize drawing for a Yeti Tundra 65 beverage cooler and cups (people do not need to enter a fish to be included in the door prize drawing). Tickets for the fish are only sold until noon on the day of the event.

The Ice Fishing Derby & Winter Carnival is a fundraiser that supports Spectrum Generations programs and services, including Meals on Wheels and other nutrition-related services for seniors and adults with disabilities.
