The girl’s mother, Jason Kelsey, is raising shares about what Taylor Swift did
The last Kansas City Chiefs game was full of Kelce family moments.
While Taylor Swift appeared once again to support her boyfriend Travis Kelce, his brother Jason Kelce and sister-in-law Kylie Kelce were also present during the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Buffalo Bills game on January 21.
After celebrating his brother’s landing by taking off his shirt, Jason Kelce was in a cheerful mood and brought up one of Swift’s young fans to meet the pop star.
Jessica Piazza, the mother of that girl, 8-year-old Ella, opens up to TODAY about the moment the Philadelphia Eagles center helped her daughter say hello to Swift.
“I had no idea how widespread it was until I woke up at 6am this morning to thousands of texts from friends who had seen it first on Barstool Sports and then everywhere!” Piazza, a longtime Bills fan, told TODAY on Jan. 22.
In a video that captured the moment, Jason Kelsey held Ella up as she showed her sign to Swift and said hello.
Piazza, who grew up in Rochester, New York, and works for the Autism Partnership, told TODAY that this was Ella’s first toy. She said the third-grader is “not yet fully aware” of her newfound fame.
“She only knows what we’re telling her so far! A lot of her friends’ parents have called us because Ella’s friends are dying to talk to her,” Piazza said. “So we’re going to FaceTime with all of her friends on the way to the airport.”
Piazza said the family was supposed to go to the game last weekend, but it was postponed and they couldn’t make a new date.
“We had to sell out our tickets. It was a big deal at the time. But when this other game came up, we knew we had to try to get tickets and we did!” she said.
Luck was on their side this time. However, the family was first sitting across from where the Swifts and Kelses were.
“Ella worked hard on that sign. The week before she was telling all her friends at school that she was going to meet Taylor Swift at the game,” Piazza said. “I knew where we were sitting — and it was clear on the other side of the field where he was sitting.” Kelsey’s team, most likely. But I didn’t want to say anything.”
However, one of Piazza’s friends was sitting in the section where Swift and the Kelces were and asked them to switch seats with them at halftime so Ella would have a chance to see Swift.
They had no idea who else was in Swift’s box when they went and they had no idea Jason Kelce had taken his shirt off.
“It was the end of the first half and a lot of people had left their seats to go to the bathroom or get a drink or whatever, so we just tried to climb higher and higher. It was Ella who was really making the way,” the mother recalls. “When people saw her sign, it started Everyone is helping her. It was really nice.
They finally caught Jason Kelsey’s attention after people in the crowd started yelling at him to help Ella and another little girl who was also nearby.
“I thought it was Ryan Fitzpatrick (former Bills quarterback) because he has a beard and is always ripping off his shirt,” Piazza said. “And then everyone was saying it was Jason Kelce. It all happened so fast! And anyone who’s a football fan knows that Jason Kelce is the father of a girl, so I knew she was in good hands!”
As for the moment she finally saw Ella Swift?
“She waved and smiled,” the proud mom said. “And Ella was in absolute heaven. She probably still doesn’t realize what a mega star Jason Kelsey is either. She couldn’t believe she saw Taylor! For the rest of the match she was on cloud nine.”
Piazza said Ella is Swift’s “biggest” fan, threw a Swift-themed birthday party last year and they went on the “Eras Tour” on Mother’s Day. Meanwhile, Ella’s favorite Swift song used to be “You Belong With Me,” but now it’s “My Tears Ricochet,” Piazza said, adding, “She’s a dancer, so she does all her dance recitals to all of Taylor Swift’s songs.” I thought the concert was absolutely amazing.
Piazza and Ella, who are based in California, will now head to New York and speak with TODAY about the experience. The mother said that Ella “understands” that she will appear on television and “takes it very seriously.”
Adding, “She’s a little nervous, but she’s very excited. She knows that a lot of people have seen her meet Taylor Swift, and she thinks that’s pretty cool.”
Tune in to Tuesday’s episode of TODAY to see Ella discuss Swift and Jason Kelsey’s moment.
