Tesla outsold Peugeot, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan in the UK
According to August 2023 sales data, Tesla outsold popular automakers Peugeot, Mercedes-Benz and Nissan in the UK. Sales of electric cars in the UK reached record levels earlier this year, indicating a high rate of transition from fossil fuel cars to electric cars.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) in the UK released data revealing that Tesla was the ninth best-selling car brand in the country with 4,021 registrations. Tesla beat the famous car brand Mercedes-Benz, which sold 3,646 units last month. The Texas-based automaker also sold more than Peugeot, with 3,112 new vehicles and Nissan, which sold 2,336 units in August.

Volkswagen topped UK car sales in August, selling 8,335 units. Ford came in second with sales of 7,449 cars. Sales of the German automaker and Ford included battery electric vehicle units and internal combustion engine vehicles.
The Tesla Model Y and Model 3 are rated at UK top ten bestseller list for the month of August 2023. The Model Y came in second place with 2,313 units sold, just below sales of the Ford Puma, which ranked first with 2,336 units. Last month, The Model 3 was the sixth best seller In the United Kingdom, with 1,698 units sold.
UK car sales for August 2023 were 24.4% higher than last year. This demand can be attributed to the significant increase in vehicle registrations for fleets. Fleet registrations increased by 58.4% from 32,794 units in August 2022 to 51,951 vehicles last month.
“As the auto industry enters its second year of growth, a recovery is under way with electric vehicles energizing the market. But with the new zero-emissions vehicle mandate to take effect in less than 120 days, SMMT CEO Mike Hawes said. Manufacturers are still waiting for details.
