Statewide trout stocking highlights for December 2023
Many Idaho lakes and ponds will soon be enhanced with Idaho Fish and Game stocking nearly 7,000 catchable-size rainbow trout in December. Wondering if stock trucks will return to your favorite fishing hole? We asked our fish and game hatchery staff to recap some of the stocking highlights coming to local fisheries this month.
Many of the fisheries listed below are easy to access and are family-friendly fishing destinations. All you need to get started is a fishing license and some basic tools. Annual adult fishing licenses cost about $30, youth (ages 14-17) fishing licenses cost $16, and youth (under 14) hunt for free. Go to an online Fish and Game vendor to purchase a license.
Fishing for stocked rainbow trout can be a great way to introduce budding anglers to the sport using simple, inexpensive setups such as worm/marshmallow combos or commercial baits such as PowerBait® or Crave, placed either near the bottom or below a bobber; As anglers know, there’s nothing better than fighting a trout at the end of a fishing line. the Learn to fish page Provides charts for basic bait rigs.
Most Idaho waters are open to fishing year-round, but some may have slightly different rules. December 2023 Fish stocking highlights
Southwest District (Nampa)
Boise River, Strawberry Glen to Barber Dam – 1,080 rainbow trout
Boise River, Middleton to Eagle Rd – 1,080 rainbow trout
Dick Knox Bond – 700 rainbow trout
Located Just south of the corner of West Sales Yard and Airport Roads in Emmett, this pond gives anglers the opportunity to pursue a wide variety of fish species. Pond amenities include five floating docks – one of which is ADA accessible, two restrooms, a boat dock, and ample parking.
Marsing pool – 450 rainbow trout
This pond is located off State Highway 55 below the Snake River Bridge.
Riverside pool – 450 rainbow trout
A quiet neighborhood pond just off the Boise Greenbelt, tucked among the trees off Glenwood Road offers good bank fishing and a large fishing pier.
Sawyers pool – 300 rainbow trout
This pond complex offers plenty of fishing options. Fishermen can launch small boats to access a series of ponds of different sizes. Numerous piers and beach access provide great fishing opportunities.
wilson creek – 500 rainbow trout
Wilson Springs North Pond – 800 rainbow trout
Wilson Springs South Pond – 400 rainbow trout
Wilson Springs Cup Pond – 400 rainbow trout
This complex of water bodies provides an easy way to experience nature. Paved trails provide better access to many fishing areas, while unimproved trails allow children to fish from shore and explore, making it a popular family destination.
Magic Valley area
Filler pool for children and filler pool – 900 rainbow trout
These two ponds are located just a short drive from Twin Falls. Both feature excellent accessibility with regular trout stocking. The children’s pool is open to children 12 and under. Filer Pond is open to anglers of any age.
