Sony releases the ILX-LR1, an ultra-lightweight E-mount camera for industrial applications
Sony Electronics announces the release of the ILX-LR1, an interchangeable-lens camera designed for industrial use with a 61MP, approximately 35mm, full-frame image sensor. The design with high precision in a lightweight and compact form, makes it suitable for inspection, investigation, surveying and mapping by UAV. The new ILX-LR1 is primarily a still camera. However, it does have video capabilities. At this time no specifications are available.
Sony says the ILX-LR1 takes high-resolution, low-noise, wide dynamic range images that reveal fine details like small scratches and cracks during inspection and investigation. It also has a selection of continuous shooting capability such as 3fps, which is suitable for map shooting, allowing high-altitude shots to be quickly completed in a short period of time. It is compatible with a wide range of E-mount lenses.
compact design

The ILX-LR1 is a compact, lightweight interchangeable lens camera with a 35mm full-frame image sensor. It measures approximately 3.94″ wide x 2.91″ high x 1.67″ deep, and weighs approximately 0.53 pounds, without holding a screen, viewfinder, or battery, but includes features essential for industrial applications.
The compact, boxy camera has taps for secure mounting, in any convenient location, on any of its six sides, including for attachment to drones, industrial machinery, robots, and/or submarines. In addition, it has a mounting screw hole (1/4-20 UNC) on the bottom surface. USB Type-C and HDMI Micro (Type D) are located together on the back of the camera for easy installation.
The Sony Camera Remote SDK allows remote users to access and control camera menus and other functions through their software applications. The client application can also associate unique image identifiers with the drone’s location data in post-processing. Images can be captured with a trigger signal to reduce the latency of each image and drone location data. With the new version 1.11, when using manual focus it is possible to retrieve the current focus position and make focus adjustments to the desired position, allowing for stable and highly repeatable shooting. Also, the lock switch will prevent unintentional operating errors caused by the buttons on the back side.

The ILX-LR1 Power and Control Station allows low-latency data communication for remote applications that require an immediate response, such as capturing a photo at a particular moment. The ILX-LR1 supports DC 10-18V power connection and can be powered from the drone’s battery for extended runtime without the need to change batteries.
