Simone Biles says being ‘deliberate’ is key in her epic comeback to the 2024 Paris Olympics

Olympic medalist Simone Biles says deliberately using her time has been key to her success in her epic comeback to gymnastics since a two-year break to focus on her mental health.

Speaking to NBC News’ TODAY show Thursday morning, the 26-year-old gymnast said she’s becoming more “cautious” about how she handles competition this time around.

“I think I should take care of myself a little bit more and listen to my body and make sure I make time for the important things in life,” said Biles, speaking from her gym in Spring, Texas. “Before, it was like ‘go, go’ and then make time.”

“This time, it was intentional, going to therapy, making sure everything was in order so I could do my best at the gym, be a good wife, a good daughter, a good friend, all the good things,” she explained.

Biles added that she has changed since the Tokyo Games, with more focus on her mental and physical health.

“Everything we do before these upcoming games or anything else is very intentional. We just played it low key this time around to make sure we are both mentally and physically in tact,” Biles said.

“I think it will be different, but it will be good,” she added.

Biles has already achieved great success in the world of competitive gymnastics since her comeback, winning her record eighth all-around title at the USA Gymnastics Championships in San Jose, California, last month.

The 26-year-old star is not done yet, and has her eyes set on heading to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“For now, I would say this is the path I like to take,” she said as she headed to Paris.

She has already won 19 World Championship gold medals – more than any men’s or women’s gymnast in history.

Outside of the gym, Biles’ life also thrives.

She married soccer player Jonathan Owens in a courthouse wedding in Houston on April 22, and they married again in Cabo, Mexico, in May.

“Unfortunately, we’re actually long distance, and we started long distance in less than a week when we were married. Right after Capo he went to Green Bay,” Biles said.

“It’s been different but at least we’re busy and focused on our own sports. It’s been amazing and we cherish the moments we have together. So he’s doing great in Green Bay, and he has his first game against Chicago this week.”

She also has a sportswear collaboration with Athleta called “Athleta Girl” designed with the inspirational quote “Because I can.”
