Persona 3 Reload Social Link Guide: How S-Links Work

This Persona 3 Reload Social Link guide features all the dialogue options, unlock conditions, and everything you need to make the most of every S-Link and romance.

The heart of this guide is the individual Social Engagement Guidelines For each of the characters in the game – which you can find by scrolling down. Before you get to that, here are some key points about the S-Link system (which some may also think are trust co-ops) to understand:

  • Social links must be unlocked. Some occur naturally as a result of the story or in-game calendar progression, while others need to be initiated directly by player action. Some are too obtuse and difficult to get started on, and many are completely unmissable – but each of our guides explains how to unlock them all.
  • S-Links progress from a Hangout. Every time you spend time with a friend, they award experience points to a hidden stat that controls the ranking of each social link. Links reach a maximum of rank 10.
  • Dialogue options make you progress more quickly. When spending time with S-Links, choosing which dialogue options they prefer will give you additional experience; This will help you rank up more quickly. These guides give you all the right options.
  • Availability of friends varies. Different people are available on different days and at different times of the day. This means that it is important to schedule your time effectively to ensure that you can spend the required time with each character to rank them all to the maximum. Our individual S-Link walkthroughs help with this, but if you want a step-by-step guide, we have walkthroughs for Persona 3 Reload Max Social Link as well.
  • Always check your character’s inventory. You can get bonus EXP on your Hangouts if you have a character of the matching Arcana in your current inventory. So, in order to hang out with Yukari, who represents the Lovers Arcana, you must have a Lovers Arcana with you – and so on.
  • S-Links give fewer rewards in Persona 3. The reloading process has been changed a lot to bring it more in line with Persona 5, but don’t expect bigger S-Link bonuses like new abilities in battle – primarily, advanced S-Links only give you ongoing story and Persona Fusion bonuses.
  • New fans will know them as The Confidants. In Persona 5, the developers changed the terminology, and these friendship bonds were changed to be called close co-ops. However, in Persona 3 and 4, they are known as Social Links – S-Links for short.

Romantic Personalities of S-Links

Romance is a staple of Persona at this point, but as an older game, Persona 3 keeps it simpler than most – and since this version doesn’t have a female protagonist, it’s still simpler.

However, the protagonist has some romantic options: he can change his relationships with… Yukari, Mitsuru, Fuuka, Chihiro, Yuko, or Aegis To full relationships. You can do this simply by following their social connection, at which point later there will be a clear branching between platonic and romantic ways.

It’s important to note that in previous versions of this game, you were forced to enter into romantic relationships in order to grind every social link to rank 10. Fortunately, this has been changed for Persona 3 Reload – you will have a clear choice, and be able to… Progress through each S-Link through the Friendship Only option instead if that’s what you prefer.

We have a separate short page on romance just in case you want to learn more about how romance works in P3 Reload – which is a little different in Reload than previous Persona 3 releases.
