If you’ve been anywhere near the internet in the past week, you’ve probably poked your head into the chatter surrounding Palworld. It was described as “Pokemon-with-guns’, the game has racked up millions of downloads in the few days since its release, despite growing concerns about its Pokemon “inspirations”.

Available on Xbox and PC, it was only a matter of time before you got your hands on a Pokémon mod, with ‘official’ origins replacing those that were increasingly referred to as ‘cheat’ versions.

The mod exists and there is a video of it It was shared on Twitter Yesterday by Australian YouTubers @toastedshoes. It showed familiar faces like Ash Ketchum and Misty wielding firearms, while all of Palworld’s friends were replaced with Pokémon models. ToastedShoes announced that it would upload a full video of the edit the next day, although unsurprisingly it appears that Somebody I intervened.

Yes, what this YouTuber charmingly refers to as “Nintendo came for me,” may be better known as a DMCA takedown. We can’t know for sure if it was released by the Big-N, as the company has reportedly declined to comment on “individual cases” like this previously, though it’s reasonable to assume that Nintendo or The Pokémon Company was the parent company . Those are for intervention.

It remains to be seen whether the legal action will stick solely to Pokémon mods (ToastedShoes has yet to upload the promised “full video” at the time of writing, and the takedown makes it seem unlikely, if we’re being honest), though there’s growing speculation that Calls from fans and legal experts alike to address the near-identical assets indicate that there may be more copyright strikes on the horizon.
