We’re about a week away from Mortal Kombat 1 Early Access, but that doesn’t mean there’s still some new stuff to brag about.
NetherRealm Studios finally announced Nitara today as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 1, and Megan Fox serves as the game’s new voice actress.
Nitara is back for her first playable outing since Mortal Kombat Armageddon, sporting a completely different makeover for MK1 that’s missing her eyepatch and dark hair.
The vampire still has her iconic wings intact although she now has red hair and an ornate demonic design for her shield.
“It’s great to be in the game,” Fox said, introducing her character. “Because I’m not just expressing it. It would be like it’s kind of like me… I think it’s just an opportunity that anyone would want to have because we all grew up playing the game, and it’s one of the greatest video game opportunities of all time.”
Although much of the trailer focuses on cinema and Fox, we got to see some of Nitara’s gameplay here which of course seems to include some flying combos.
They also show her placing some kind of blood seal on the ground which makes it glow red and obviously gives her a boost although we’ll have to wait a bit more to see how it all actually works.
She looks like a character who wants to stand up to you and take them down with her claws extended while also being a rare MK fighter who seems to have an air dash.
Given that she is shown fighting against Ashrah in a story scene, it is unsurprising that it looks like Nitara will be fighting alongside the “bad guy” team in Mortal Kombat 1 including Havik and General Shao.
There is also an interesting inclusion of the pre-battle introduction between her and Kung Lao where Nitara asks where Jen/Jin’s body is.
This could mean that Kung Jin is/was in the new MK timeline and is now a woman though we’ll have to wait and see if there’s more of that in the game.
Megan Fox marks the second consecutive match NRS has brought in a celebrity to voice a non-guest character after Ronda Rousey appeared in Mortal Kombat 11 as the voice actress for Sonya Blade.
Previous announcements for MK1 showed General Shao and Sindel as playable fighters as well as Motaro and Shujinko as Kameos although it seems they haven’t finished revealing yet.
Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled to be released on September 19th on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC, but players can start playing the game starting September 14th for those who pre-order the Premium or Kollector’s Editions of the game. the game.
