First things first, you realize that you no longer have to stand in line at the sporting goods store or bait shop to get a hunting or fishing license in Louisiana, right? The LDWF had a thoughtful idea a few years ago to make this process digital.

In other words, you can now obtain a hunting or fishing license on your smartphone through the Department of Wildlife website. This is a great feature for people like me who forget and don’t remember to take care of these important details before heading out to the lake or rig. I renewed my fishing license on my phone when the boat was launched at the crack of dawn.

While the move to online licensing has been a huge improvement in the eyes of most athletes across the state, there is still one problem that bothers people like a pebble in the bottom of their hunting boots. It is about renewal at the time of expiry.

Since most of us don’t remember to do something we only do once a year, remembering to renew your license when it expires was quite a chore. Renewals the way the LDWF system is currently set up can only be done after the license has expired. Therefore, it is good if you can quickly renew on your smartphone as we discussed earlier.

It should be noted that the LDWF officials are working on a change to the renewal system that will allow you to renew your licenses before they expire. Changes in this regard have not been finalized as of this report though.

The LDWF has now announced that it is offering a 24-hour grace period for athletes whose licenses expire. Maybe you’re camping or on a trip and remember that regeneration isn’t your top priority, and now you have an extra day to get it done.

You can also sign up for auto-renewal of your hunting and fishing licenses via the LDWF website. This feature will automatically renew your license when it expires. There is a $3.50 convenience fee associated with this service. You will also receive email reminders thirty days and seven days before your license expires.
