Garmin continues to change the game with its new Panoptix PS70 direct sonar for deep sea fishing

The new Garmin RapidReturn sonar is the first to provide live images up to 1,000 feet below the surface

Olathe, Kan., February 13, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Garmin (NYSE: GRMN), the world’s most innovative and recognized manufacturer of marine electronics, today unveiled the Panoptics PS70, the latest addition to our award-winning live sonar lineup. Powered by Garmin RapidReturnSonar technology, the PS70 gives anglers a real-time view of what’s beneath the surface at greater depths than ever before. The fastest live sonar on the market today at 1,000 feet provides a smooth, video-like display that updates at least 10 frames per second – 6 to 8 times faster than the leading competitor at 1,000 feet. See it in action here.

“Never before have fishermen seen live sonar images at such depths or at such speeds. Its wide sonar beam covers a larger portion of the water column at one time and enables faster scanning of the ocean floor in greater detail and can even show you where targets are located, so It will take anglers less time to find bait, fish and structure – which is truly a game changer in deep sea sport fishing. Dan Bartle, Garmin Vice President of Global Consumer Sales

See the fish live, and catch the fish in the deep

Garmin RapidReturn sets the standard for marine live sonar—from small baitfish to game fish—in real-time and at depths up to 1,000 feet. With a power output of 800 watts, the PS70 gives anglers stronger sonar penetration through the water and offers four unique sonar modes that can be easily adjusted to suit a wide range of fishing techniques:

  • LiveVü under – Anglers can see small baitfish and target game fish in real time up to 1,000 feet below the boat, while the 120-degree wide beam angle covers large areas of water.
  • Traditional sonar Crisp, clear fish bows with excellent target separation under the boat.
  • triple beam – Conventional 3-way sonar provides returns from port, straight down and to starboard in an easy-to-understand conventional sonar display. Adjust the beam angles to adjust the three columns of sonar data.
  • RealVü 3D historical – Historical survey technology helps find fish and build a map of the ocean floor as the boat moves. It shows the entire water column in 3D, from the bottom to the surface and all the fish in between. True Motion 3D sonar return tracks the ship’s path on the ground.

The stainless steel PS70 transducer is also equipped with image stabilization technology that allows it to continuously adjust sonar beams to compensate for boat movement, so even in extreme conditions, anglers will still see a stable sonar image.

Fast withdrawal

No one knows the water better than the fishermen who fish it, and now with the PS70, fishermen can scan the ocean floor in stunning detail faster than ever before. Users have the option to contribute their data to the QuickDraw community so it can be incorporated into Garmin Navionics+ charts, or keep their lines saved in their own chartplotter.

The PS70 power adapter can be flush-mounted or pocket-mounted. It is available now at the suggested retail price of $4,799.99or as a package that includes a fairing block to allow elevation angles from 0 to 20 degrees and mounting hardware $4,999.99.
