For Lent, a list of fish fry events at Tampa Bay churches and restaurant specials

Here’s a list of fish fry events at local churches, and fish specials at Tampa Bay restaurants, if you’re giving up meat for Lent. Lent ends just before Easter, which falls on March 31 of this year.

Churches

Holy Family Catholic Church: The Boy Scouts of America will host a fish dinner consisting of baked or fried fish, green beans or French fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies ($12). Kids can get mac and cheese with French fries or green beans ($6). 5-7 p.m., February 16-23, and March 1, 8, 15, and 22 at Diffley Hall. 200 78th Avenue NE, St. Petersburg. 727-526-5783.

Saint Raphael Catholic Parish: The Knights of Columbus and Council of Catholic Women will serve a mahi-mahi dinner from baked, fried or spicy. Comes with a choice of two sides and cornbread. Sides include macaroni and cheese, hash browns, green beans, and coleslaw. Cheese pizza is also available for those who don’t like fish. $12, $6 for children. 5:30-7 p.m., February 16-23, and March 1, 8, 15, and 22 at the Parish Center. 1376 Snell Island Blvd. NE, St. Petersburg. 727-821-7989.

St. Mark’s Evangelist Catholic Church: The Knights of Columbus and Columbite will once again hold the award-winning Spirit FM World Fish Fry Tour. Includes a combination of fish and shrimp ($14, $10 for children), fish or shrimp ($12, $8 for children), mac and cheese ($9, $7 for children), New England clam chowder ($5) and shrimp Caesar salad ( $7). St. Paul’s Catholic Church, St. Petersburg: St. Paul’s Catholic Women’s Ministry offers an alternative to fasting from fish. Get a meat-free Italian dinner that includes pasta primavera, salad, Italian bread, dessert and a drink ($10, $5 for kids). 1800 12th Street N, St. Petersburg. 727-822-3481.

Incarnation of the Catholic Church: The Incarnation Council of Catholic Women holds a dinner of fried fish or shrimp, coleslaw, hash browns, wraps and dessert ($15, $8 for ages 6 and younger). It takes place at St Michaels Hall. 4-7:30 pm on February 16 and 23, and March 1 and 8. 8220 W Hillsborough Ave., Tampa. 813-885-7861.

Blessed Trinity Catholic Church: The Knights of Columbus will stock a fish fry served with French fries, macaroni and cheese, and coleslaw ($15). It is held in the parish hall. 5-7 pm on February 16 and 23, and March 1, 8, 15 and 22. 1600 S 54th Street, St. Petersburg. 727-867-3663.

St. Lawrence Catholic Church: Weekly fried fish with coleslaw, hosh puppies and a drink. 4:30-7 p.m., February 16-23, and March 1, 8, 15 and 22 at Celtic Hall. 5225 n. Himes Ave, Tampa. 813-875-4040.

St. Paul’s Catholic Church: The Knights of Columbus will be holding a fish fry at the Family Center. 5-7pm on February 16 and 23, and March 1, 8, 15 and 22. 12708 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa. 813-961-3023.

Our Lady of Lourdes Parish: Faith Formation carries fried talapia with coleslaw, fries, and hushpuppies ($13, $5 for kids). Meatless meal is also available. Pearl Tampa: At Pearl, you’ll find Great Lakes fish and chips with malt vinegar fries and coleslaw ($28). They also have fried oysters ($12). Both are gluten free. 823 Water Street, Tampa. 813-709-7776.

Ocean Prime: For lunch, Ocean Prime serves a crispy fish sandwich with cheese, coleslaw and hot tartar sauce ($19). 2205 n. Westshore Blvd, Tampa. 813-490-5288.

The deep end: The 11th-floor rooftop restaurant at the JW Marriott Clearwater Beach Resort & Spa serves fresh Florida yellowtail snapper with kimchi and purple potatoes ($44). 691 S. Gulfview Blvd., Clearwater Beach. 727-677-6000.

Crabby bills: Crabby Bills offers a fried grouper dinner with two sides ($29), a classic fried whitefish dinner ($21) and a fried seafood platter of whitefish, shrimp, bay scallops and stuffed crab ($32). For a location near you, go to crabbybills.com.

Duffy’s Sports Bar & Grill: Starting at 5 p.m. every Friday from February 14 to March 2, Duffy’s will serve fried Alaskan cod with French fries, coleslaw and tartar sauce ($13.49).
