Family search intensifies for missing fishermen in Georgia
street. Jones County, Florida – Family members of three missing fishermen who disappeared more than a month ago off the coast of Brunswick are frantically combing the coast of St. Johns County.
This comes after the wreckage of their boat was discovered in the waters off the coast of St. Johns County on Sunday. On Monday, the United Marine Corps, which recovered the boat’s fish box, posted a photo of a possible life raft seen in the water.
The Coast Guard said the missing men were Tyler Barlow, Caleb Wilkinson and Dalton Conway. Kim Jones is Tyler’s mother. She walked with family and friends along the beaches and waterways off St. Johns County all day.
“We came out here to walk the beaches, search the beaches, see if there’s any debris. With the surface of that fish box visible, there’s probably other stuff washing up on shore,” Jones said.
With a T-shirt featuring the boat, Carol Ann, and the hashtag “Won’t Stop,” Jones says the discovery of the boat’s fish box gave them their first glimmer of hope. They spent a lot of time in the area around the port of Matanzas on Monday, after reports of a possible lifeboat spread on social media.
“It’s very emotional because it’s been a month, seeing some types of debris that have been identified and confirmed to be part of the Carol Ann. So, I’m just praying and hoping they’re in the lifeboat and following the same path as the trash can,” Jones said.
The found fishing box is what fishermen store their fish in. Bill Edinger works for the Freedom Boat Club. He said he was not surprised to find it floating.
“The fish box will be insulated, it’s pretty much an all-foam box that you would normally put your fishing in. And for 4-5 day commercial fishing, it will stay insulated. Lots of ice,” Edinger said.
Now family and friends continue their frantic search for the coast, hoping for a miracle.
When we asked Jones why her shirt said “Won’t Stop” – she said: “Because we won’t stop. We will never stop looking for them and believing that God can provide for them. We will never stop looking for these boys, ever.”
As for the Coast Guard, they temporarily renewed their search after the discovery of the fish box. They have issued an urgent alert to all sailors in the area to keep an eye on the matter and will resume the search if anything is discovered.
