EVO 2024 lineup announced: Mortal Kombat 1 and Tekken 8 debut, and a classic returns

The world’s largest fighting games tournament returns to Las Vegas. EVO 2024 will be held July 19-21 in a new venue: the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. EVO 2024 will be the biggest EVO ever, featuring many new additions and eight games taking the main stage. Finally, four matches will make their debut as main titles. We learned a lot about what EVO will look like in 2024 from the EVO trailer showing on Twitch. In short, the event will be much bigger than last year’s event.

EVO 2023 was an incredible show, and we documented IGN’s Mitchell Saltzman’s journey as he competed in the event. But this year will see many improvements to the EVO format. First, there will now be a designated registration area to keep lines shorter. In addition, the EVO showroom will be open all three days. That means three days of Artist Alley, Publisher Booths, EVO Arcade and more.

Speaking of EVO Arcade, EVO 2024 will be the biggest in EVO history with a larger BYOC (bring your own console) area. This year, there will also be a brand-new art gallery showcasing works from the history of FGM and a brand-new stage for Friday’s EVO shows featuring interviews, exhibitions and more. The popular cosplay competition will also return, and perhaps most importantly, you will no longer need separate tickets for the finals on Sunday. Since the exhibition hall will be open all three days, you can go back and forth from the finals to the exhibition hall as often as you like.

In addition to all the details regarding the event itself, we’ve also taken a look at the eight games that will grace the EVO main stage, four of which will make their EVO debut, which are highlighted in bold:

  • Street Fighter VI (Capcom) – PlayStation 5
  • Tekken 8 (Bandai Namco Entertainment) – PlayStation 5
  • Mortal Kombat 1 (WB Games) – PlayStation 5
  • Guilty Gear: Strive (Arc Systems Works) – PS5
  • The King of Fighters XV (SNK) – PS5
  • Granblue Fantasy Vs: Rise (Sygames, Inc.) – PlayStation 5
  • Under the Night at Birth II (Sys:Celes) (French Bread) – PS5
  • Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (Capcom) – Arcade

You’d expect new games like Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1 to emerge, but it’s nice to see smaller, lesser-known games like Granblue and Under Night getting their turn in the bright spotlight. However, the real story is the return of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, which makes sense, given that Evo 2024 will be the 20th anniversary of EVO Moment 37. Yes, that EVO Moment 37. There will also be a community phase where community tournaments will take place. It’s having its time in the sun, although those games haven’t been announced yet.

It’s a lot to take in, but if you can’t get enough EVO, EVO Japan is scheduled for April 27-29, which will showcase every game at EVO except Mortal Kombat 1. If you’re looking to sign up or just… Want to know more, you can head to https://www.evo.gg for additional details.
