Detroit Lions Inactive: Sam LaPorta will play in the Wild Card Game
The Detroit Lions announced inactive players ahead of their Wild Card playoff game against the Los Angeles Rams.
the Detroit Lions They declared inactive ahead of the Wild Card round of the playoffs with the Los Angeles Rams and the big news is that tight end Sam LaPorta is active and will play in this game.
LaPorta is having a tremendous season as he set countless records and starters en route to earning a Pro Bowl nod and a second-team All-Pro nomination. Unfortunately, Laporta was injured in Week 18, and while things looked bleak at the start of the week, he has continually improved and is ready to play.
The Lions needed to make some roster moves this week after placing tight end James Mitchell and corner Jerry Jacobs on injured reserve. In corresponding moves, the Lions signed tight end Anthony Firkser and cornerback Chase Lucas from their practice squad. Additionally, the Lions elevated linebacker Jason Cabinda and defensive lineman Tyson Alualu from the practice squad, bringing Detroit’s total game-day roster to 55 players.
Since the Lions have eight offensive linemen active for Sunday’s game, they are eligible to expand their game-day roster from 47 to 48 players. So, with 55 players on the game-day roster and 48 players eligible to play, the Lions must declare Seven players Inactive for today’s match.
- QB Hendon Hooker – Designated to be the team’s emergency quarterback
- WR Kalief Raymond (knee) – ruled out Friday
- D. T. Broderick Martin
- julienne edge
- Edge Charles Harris
- CB Stephen Gilmour
- S. Tracy Walker
Hooker will once again be the Lions’ emergency quarterback, meaning he won’t be active for today’s game unless both of Detroit’s other options at quarterback are lost to injury. In this case, Hooker will be allowed to become active and can enter the game.
Raymond’s absence will open the door for Donovan Peoples-Jones, who seems like the most likely candidate to play a WR4 and returner role.
With a healthy roster, especially on the defensive line, Okwara, Harris and Martin will not play this week despite being healthy.
The same goes for the Lions’ secondary with Gilmore once again a healthy scratch and Walker likely not playing due to the return of C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
