Friends of Schuylkill Parks and Recreation has announced Trout Day events for youth guides and year-round fishing events at Sweet Arrow Lake.

Youth Mentor Day, organized by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, is a highly anticipated statewide event. The Friends of Schuylkill Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with the Sportsmen’s Advisory Council, joined forces to elevate the event hosted by Sweet Arrow Lake County Park, marking the fifth year of the partnership.

Tevis Energy and Modern Comfort are the main sponsors committing $4,500 to the youth-oriented fishing day at Sweet Arrow Lake on March 30.

Anglers, including more than 200 youth, will converge on the lake in search of the elusive catch, with Tevis and Modern Comfort stocking the water with 150 trout ranging in size from 18 to 25 inches. To complement this effort, the Swatara Cooperative Trout Nursery and the PA Fish and Boat Commission will stock thousands more trout.

Participation requires no registration, and qualifying youth will receive a $10 gift card from Werner Lumber Ace Hardware or Stony Gun and Archery.

Both stores have dedicated fishing sections, allowing little ones to choose their favorite bait or tackle.

Sweet Arrow Lake Park offers an array of amenities, including playgrounds, picnic tables, pavilions, trails, a waterfall, an 18-hole golf course, and ample opportunities for flatwater recreation.

Two canoe and kayak launches, along with a Fish and Boat Commission boat launch, are available for water enthusiasts. The lake allows electric motors only, and a boat must be properly registered or a launch permit must be obtained. The A&A Bait Shop, conveniently located across the street from the boat dock, provides a solution for those who may have forgotten to obtain the necessary permit for their canoe or kayak. Through May 1, life jackets are required, and additional details can be found on the Fish and Boat Commission’s webpage.

The year-long fishing extravaganza at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park officially continues on April 13. Organized by the Friends of Schuylkill Parks and Recreation and the Sportsmen’s Advisory Board, with support from Swatara Co-op Trout Nursery and title sponsor Pioneer Pole Buildings, registrations are now open.

Interested participants can find registration information on the park’s website at www.sweetarrowlakepark.com or choose to mail.

The deadline to register at Werner Lumber or Stony Gun and Archery is April 12, or until 4pm at the Fish and Boat Access booth on April 13. About $20,000 worth of trout, including 350 18-25 inch trout, will be stocked over several Saturdays. It is worth noting that a total of 65 tagged fish will be released, which will contribute to a prize pool of $10,000. Tag submissions will be accepted up to the day before the event in 2025.

Fishing highlights include grand prizes of $500, $300 and $200, specifically for tagged fish, plus 50 additional prizes of $100 each. Pioneer Pole Buildings continues its fourth year with a $2,500 sponsorship, while FCCB (First Citizens Community Bank) is in its third year with a $500 contribution.

The Friends have pledged $5,000 in matching funds for new sponsors, equaling every dollar donated up to $5,000. Contributions of any size are eligible for this generous matching initiative.

Sweet Arrow Lake is located in the town of Pine Grove near Pine Grove.
